4 out of 5 stars Better than what else is out there: Nothing.   August 23, 2005
I've been a subscriber off and on for 5 years. This is the only mag I get that I will read as soon as I get it. Why? Because unlike a lot of car mags, this one almost has a entertainment angle. However, that makes it feel like "fluff" sometimes. Depending on your car or interests, you may not find this mag usefull.
I highly recommend GMHTP if you own any car with an LS1/LS2. These seem to be the favorite engine for them to build & mod, and it will probably remain that way. Also, Buick 3.8 turbo, and 3800 series 2 owners will find good info almost every month. If you own something older or more obscure, like TPI, TBI, or a Fiero, odds are you'll like the general info and pretty pictures, but not much else.
EDIT
Well, about the same time I wrote that review, GMHTP picked up a new editor and took off in a different direction. There seems to be more hard core tech articles, some of which are beyond the weekend gearhead. Since editor Rick Jensen (no relation) has a turbo Buick, every issue has 2 articles on them. Cool cars, but kinda low numbers, so I'm not sure if they are shooting themselves in the foot there. Still haven't seen much TPI/Fiero/4-banger development, but lets be honest; GM performance is all about mid 90s+ V8 muscle.
They recently picked up a GTO test car to go nuts with upgrades, and document them of course, so if you've got a '04+ GTO its time to subscribe.

4 out of 5 stars GREAT FOR A NARROW INTEREST   August 27, 2003

(FYI I SUBSCRIBE TO APPROXIMATEY 14 MONTHLY MAGAZINES)
I HAVE SUBSCRIBED TO THIS MAGAZINE FOR A FEW YEARS. IF YOU OWN A LATE MODEL GM VEHICLE AND WANT THE LATEST IN MODIFICATIONS AND PRODUCT INFORMATION THIS IS THE MAGAZINE FOR YOU.
WHILE I HAVE BEEN A SUBSCRIBER, THIS MAGAZINE HAS FLUCTUATED ANYWHERE FROM GREAT TO AVERAGE. THIS MAY HAVE TO DO MORE WITH MY INTEREST IN WHAT IS FEATURED RATHER THAN THE QUALITY OF THE PRESENTED CONTENT WHICH IS USUALLY VERY GOOD. THE MAGAZINE HAS DETAILED "HOW TO", FEATURE CARS, PROJECT CARS, HIGH AND LOW END TECHNICAL, RACE, PART REVIEWS, ETC.
THE HIGH PERFORMANCE GEAR HEAD COULD NOT ASK FOR MORE.

THE BIGGEST DOWNSIDE TO THIS MAGAZINE IS THAT IT IS VERY THIN COMPARED TO OTHER AUTO MAGAZINES THAT USUALLY HAVE TWICE AS MANY PAGES, BUT COME WITH TWICE AS MANY ADS.
