Flimsy, Convoluted, And Problematic For Travelers December 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Casio Men's World Time Watch (Model AW80-7AV) has a couple of compelling good points: first, it is very cheap and does have numerous features (though many of them are of questionable value); second, it seems to be reasonably accurate. If this is all you care about, this could be a good watch for you.
The watch has several cons to be wary of, however. It is very light (which is actually a plus) but the band is extremely thin and flimsy. In other words, it is cheap and looks it. More annoying though is the very dim light for use in low light: it is completely inadequate and makes the functionality in the inset digital portion of the face next to worthless; the lack of contrast between the hands and watch face also contribute to the legibility issue. Most irritatingly, though, is that it doesn't have a set knob, even for the analog hands. I fly for a living and frequently cross back and forth between time zones. I had read that the watch could only be set in a forward direction, which was annoying but not a deal breaker. What is not evident is the lack of a setting knob, which means that each time you need to change the time (or do anything else, for that matter) you have to use an array of complex inputs with the four buttons which is not only very time consuming (the watch advances in 20 second increments), but also requires consultation with the ridiculously complex and thick instruction manual.
While this watch may be suitable for people who don't cross time zones frequently, use it in daylight, and don't mind referring to the manual frequently (or memorizing a huge quantity of mundane, unintuitive minutiae), for anyone else, and especially for frequent travelers, I recommend finding another watch.
nice watch with many useful features December 20, 2008 This is not my first casio watch. I had a similar analog-digital casio watch (bought it in 1997 for $54, can you imagine). The old one worked on its original factory-installed battery for 7 years. So I expect this one to run with its original battery for more than that. Now, I really loved this watch for the following reasons: - light weigh - Three alarms are very good feature, esp. the snooz, it does help me get up in a good mood. - the bright white face makes it very easy to see the time even with no need to use its light. - I meant to buy the other Watch #WS300-7BV model with that normal hand adjuster, but I thought to myself; how often you need to set the time every year? only twice a year. So I went with this one because of the 30 telememo data bank, which I haven't used it much until now, but planning to later. - The very nice feature about this watch is its relatively large LCD screen. it is much easier to read the date on the digital part, and the hands do not make the digital screen less readable. - unlike other reviews, I do like the rubber band, have no problem with it, it looks nice on my hand. The Not good features: - I agree about the illuminator, it is not that helpful - The crystal face: as this watch is on the low price, don't expect the crystal face to be scratch resistance, it can get easily scratched, so use it wisely!! In conlusion I highly recommend it. Good luck
Setting the time and date is little difficult December 10, 2008 I bought this recently. Looks good and not too big and too small. But setting the time and date and using other functions is not the much easy. May be you need to refer the manual each time you want to use other functions.
Good value but hour and minute hands hard to read December 7, 2008 Casio Men's World Time Databank 10-Year Battery Watch #AW80-7AV This watch is a good value given all the functions it performs. My only criticism is that the hands and the dial are close in color. This lack of contrast makes it difficult for me to read in low light or at a quick glance. For people whose eyesight is not good, a watch with more distinctive hands will be a better choice. Otherwise, it's a fine instrument.
not in the zone December 4, 2008 I just got this watch to replace my battery-dead Casio databank world time watch that I have worn for the past 6 or 7 years.
I get these time zone watches because I travel all day for a living so it is crucial to be able to click back and forth through the time zones that for me can change several times a day.
Well, significant problem, with this watch, you can click "forth" but not "back"!! No good! That means, if I fly from the central time zone in Dallas to mountain time in Denver, I have to click forward (east) all the way around the globe till arriving in Denver. My previous time zone watches from Casio did not do that. You could quickly click in either direction. It did not occur to me that they would build something like this.
I had tried before to replace batteries on casios, but the process did not go well. The watches are so cheap to begin with that they are not really designed with battery changes in mind.
Anyway, the new watch is affordable and Im sure it will keep time just fine and last a long time. No problem there. I wish this watch had a sweep second hand, an old fashion notion and there is digital second keeping avail, but the old watch had both.
Also, I still have a problem with both watches on the lack of contrast betweeen face and hands. These watches have silvery faces and silvery hands. The hands need to be black so they will show up.
So, this is not a bad watch, and the price cannot be beat, and I appreciate those things from Casio. But the time zone thing, gosh, they should realize that if someone is going to buy a time zone watch with all the other watches Casio has available, they must have a real need for doing that. Having to click 23 zones east to arrive 1 zone west is a sad state of affairs. I am going to try and replace the battery of my old watch.
