Amazon.com "The watch can be worn on the wrist during any hard sports ... during motorcross, chain saw operation, rock drill operation, and so on." This, from page 2 of the Casio User's Guide, pretty much sums up the G-Shock line of watches. When Casio launched G-Shock (the g stands for gravity) in 1983, the idea was to create an unbreakable watch, which, judging from the appearance of this formidable looking timepiece, is exactly what they've done. This G-Shock is as thick as your finger and includes all the usual sport features--stopwatch and split times, backlight, alarm, and countdown timer. The watch's calendar comes preprogrammed through 2039. The three small dials lined up across the top of the face are more stylish than functional: when in stopwatch or timer modes, they illuminate in chronometer fashion to indicate various fractions and multiples of a second. Whether you're breaking rocks, snowboarding, or just going for a walk, the Casio G-Shock should be ticking no matter how hard you work or play. Comes with a rugged, thick black-plastic watchband and a two-year battery. --Harry C. Edwards

Great Watch! January 14, 2007 This is a great watch, and a super buy. It takes all sorts of abuse, and keeps on working. I work in construction and also have my hands and arms in water frequently. This watch takes all that I put it through with no problem. The only drawback was there was no instruction manual included, but I had an old one from my last G-Shock (the strap finally couldn't be re-attached, but the clock part still worked great) so I could set it, etc.
Was a great basic watch....until the dog got a hold of it... January 25, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this model of Casio's famous G-Shock series back in early 1999, and the feature which attracted me most was the "Illuminator", the electro-luminescent back lighting for viewing in the dark - a marked improvement over the tiny light bulb built into my previous G-Shock which I had purchased in 1988 (the original model!). It served me well for two years, and I only gave it up because I was eager to obtain a newer G-Shock model with the "Data Bank" - unfortunately I made the unwise choice of a cloth band with velcro. I am a guy who never takes off his watch, either in bed or the shower (comes in handy when you want to know if you're running behind schedule getting ready for work!), so the cloth band with the velcro worked out miserably - not only that, but I very seldom used the Data Bank feature. At that point it would have been good to go back to the model I am reviewing, if it weren't for the unfortunate fact that I had left it at my Mother's house on a lamp table, and it was soon thereafter discovered by my mother's dog, Foster, who found the resin band to be an excellent chew-toy. The body of the watch was undamaged and the band could have been replaced, but my Mother had thrown away the perfectly good watch as she thought it was totalled. I have very recently purchased my FOURTH G-Shock, a solar-atmoic one, as my Data-Bank one has died on me - however, had my mother only not thrown out my DW6900, I could have gone back to that, as I'm sure it is still keeping accurate time to this day, sadly deep in some landfill.
The best all-purpose active/sports watch I have ever owned. January 10, 1999 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
I have brought this watch through the trials of time and it continues to function flawlessly. I bought this watch before enduring 6 weeks of boot camp at the United States Naval Academy. The Casio G-Shock performed great in the mud, rain, rivers, and grueling sessions of physical training. If it can handle the military, it can handle any civilian duty!!
Smash it, thrash it, crush it and it continues to tick December 16, 1998 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
One of the best watches I have ever owned. A poster watch when it comes to durability and functionality. Doesn't have complex functions and bizzaro controls, but rather is suited for just about every individual. If you are an active outdoor individual and are afraid of hurting your watch when rollerblading, snowboarding, anything -- then buy a G-Shock and you will not be disappointed.
The Most Rugged Watch In the World December 8, 1998 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
This watch is the best all purpose watch. I am a Firefighter and I rely on this all the "time". I also reccomend this to people who work with electricity because of the all rubber design there is no chance the band will conduct and shock you unlike metal banded watches. And the price is the best I have seen.
