1 out of 5 stars do not waste your money...   November 26, 2008
I purchased the model 4040 GPS receiver new in january of 2008. It had several software issues such as taking you circles or down private dirt roads and the maps were 18 months out of date they assured me that a new update was due out soon, when they finally did get the update I was told I would have to buy it and the unit will not install the lastest software update until you input the new maps. Their tech support dept is very little help when you E-mail as they often do not respond and when you call you get somebody that can not understand english. For the price of the unit you would think you should get some kind of help.

4 out of 5 stars Magellan Maestro 4040.   November 16, 2008
Maps are pretty accurate and the "mobilty" of the device a nice extra. Really like the blue tooth feature - works great with my all the families cell phones. Whenever we go somewhere as a family its a race to see which cell phone gets connected to the hands free feature of the 4040...
A good product - excellent value for money.

1 out of 5 stars Navigate away from Magellan   November 10, 2008
Well after having a Garmin 330 for many years, I decided to grab this Magellan, since I wanted the bluetooth speaker phone. I got a refurb for $99 which seemed like a steal. Having the bigger screen was great and the speakerphone is now a must have on my next unit. That was about it for the good stuff.

The interface is not as intuitive as Garmin and it took a long time to route and reroute. Unfortunately, I only had the unit for a month. The suction cup let go and the screen cracked when it hit the floor. (The Garmin made this fall about 50 times without a scratch)

Magellan Customer Support/ Tech Support is atrocious. After talking to Customer Support for 10 minutes they finally transferred me to tech support where I explained the issue and was promptly put on hold for 25 minutes. They returned to informed me that they do not cover or repair screen cracks. If I sent in the unit they would sell me a refurb 4250 for $140. Not a deal because I found them online for $130. Magellan was a big disappointment, I would steer clear... Back to Garmin for me.

5 out of 5 stars great gps!   November 3, 2008
This Gps is great. Does what it should and provide directions for where you want to go. Nice screen size, easy to use, very intuitive. I also like the bluetooth feature for your phone. I like how I was able to find Costco for my wife and have it mapped for her so she wouldn't get lost. I enjoy the home feature too, so you can always find your way back no matter where you are or if your in a city at night and don't know the streets. Super price as well for a refurbished unit.

The only thing I would wish for is to have different voices for directions.

5 out of 5 stars Great GPS   November 1, 2008
The Maestro 4040 is a fine GPS receiver that has an accurate map database, extensive POI database, AAA Tourbook data, and a fast and accurate routing engine. I own the Maestro 4040, a Maestro 3100, and a Tom Tom One. Both Magellans are superior to the Tom Tom in map accuracy, POI content and accuracy, and logic of operation. The Magellan units and the Tom Tom One will get you where you need to go, but the Magellans do the job better.
