Wealth of information on engine design December 6, 2008 Forced Induction Performance Tuning is both broad in scope and lengthy in explanation. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to broaden the scope of knowledge they have with regards to engine design.
To be somewhat critical the information does feel slightly dated, but I don't think the author projected beyond the copyright date inaccurately to any significant degree. There are other books that will provide more up to date information within scopes like engine management computers that have changed much in the past decade. This book will provide an excellent basis and background if approaching modern engine management even if it does not detail the latest and greatest in ECU technology.
This book, along with the Greg Banish or Jeff Hartman engine management system tuning books creates a knock out punch if you are looking to dive into engine tuning.
It is also worth noting that this book repeats much of what you will find in A. Graham Bell's other tuning books. This is certainly the one to buy for turbo or supercharger enthusiasts, and not much will be missed if you skip Four Stroke Performance or Modern Engine Tuning in leu of this book.
Forced Induction Performance Tuning April 29, 2008 Excellent introduction to the physics involved in forced induction from the basics of an internal combustion motor through advanced forced induction principles. A street car enthusiasts must have. a $50 book will save hobbiest thousands in useless and/or damaged parts. JRJ
good book to buy January 24, 2008 i'm not going to write a long review. all i'm going to say is that i was a noob before i read this, and this book made me a very informed noob. i can carry good convos with people that have been tuning for 20 years, because i know what they are talking about. i wish the book talked about direct injection, because that is what i have on my mazdaspeed3, but oh well. if you are even considering buying a book about FI tuning, you should get this. the book talks A LOT about what it takes to make a good running FI car. ex.\ good design of headers. i wish it talked a little more about tuning, but if you read the book carefully, the tuning is scattered all throughout the book. it is a really good read, i put it in the bathroom and read it twice over 3 weeks. needless to say i have a sore a**, because i couldn't put the book down. BUY THIS NOW.
just the facts, please December 5, 2007 There are no pretty pictures in this book. Eye candy is not on the menu. This book is a step by step guide to turbocharging just as the cover says. The information here is honest and straight forward if a little dry. I am not giving it 5 stars because I like Eye candy to inspire me. This will probably be the book I use the most on this topic.
Best engine book I've read. October 30, 2007 I think this book is great. It is easy to understand and there are examples on how they did in the F1 turbo era and many sport and rallycars. I have read more books by A Graham Bell and all of them are great. He writes about the tecnical aspects of how and why and what effects it will give. He gives a good understanding of all aspects of forced induction. There are examples of how you can enhance your car if you want. If you want a book that describes how forced induction works and go a little deeper then "more boost is better" this is the book for you.
