Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
With composites now commonplace in competition-specific automobiles, it's important for anyone involved in auto racing to understand what composites are and how to use them. This practical and completely illustrated guide takes readers through all aspects of composite-fiber applications with an emphasis on methods and materials for the home workshop. Topics covered include: explanations of composites and their properties, including glass, carbon fiber, core materials and resins; a step-by-step guide to "wet" and "dry" laminating techniques; pattern- and mold-making; and recent advances in both materials and technologies.

4 out of 5 stars Great practical guide   March 24, 2008
An excellent introduction and guidebook for anyone interested in making their own fiber reinforced composites.

5 out of 5 stars Very good book   July 3, 2007
4 out of 4 found this review helpful

This is a very good book to buy if you are interested in composites. It explains in detail the principles behind the fibre reinforced resins, the materials used and the different laminating techniques, from the very basic to the most complex ones. The explanations are written in a language that everyone could understand even if the reader has never heard of composites before reading this book. A must have.

4 out of 5 stars Good intro to advanced composites   March 8, 2006

There aren't too many good books on the fabrication and repair of structures that use high modulus fibers like Carbon and Kevlar, modern core materials, and high performance resins. While this British title "goes on a bit" and is not for the illiterate, it does an excellent job of walking you through the process of building and repairing parts that would not be out of place on any track in the country. It will also be useful to airplane and boat builders.

4 out of 5 stars Good book on composites for any home-workshop application   November 14, 2001
46 out of 47 found this review helpful

This is a great book for learning about working with composites out of the home workshop whatever you're doing. Although the title of the book is "Competition Car Composites," only the last chapter deals specifically with the auto racing field. The book is broken down into chapters dealing with the materials used in composites, the tools and equipment, the methods, etc. There is also a chapter that talks about the equipment available to industry and professionals.
