Product Description
The outstanding images in this book chronicle the career of one of the most admired Grand Prix drivers in living memory - and surely the most loved in all of F1 history. Gilles Villeneuve's career statistics cannot even begin to explain the mystique. It was created over only four full seasons with Ferrari in F1, three of these with uncompetitive cars. He achieved only six victories from 67 starts, two pole positions, eight fastest laps and 107 championship points. He was one of the finest racing drivers never to become World Champion. He possessed miraculous car control and frightening courage that could often overcome the flaws in his equipment. He thrilled spectators because he made them fear for his safety. He raced to win and, if that meant taking risks, so be it. He crashed often, and occasionally he broke his cars in his frustration, but he could wring from them performances far beyond their capabilities. Sometimes his starts almost defined belief, and always he was magnificent on a wet track. He never, ever, gave up. He treated his racing cars with uncompromising brutality. Yet he was soft-natured, and emotional and devoted family man, loyal to his friends, charming to strangers. He was unwavering in his commitment to sportsmanship, to his inborn sense of right and wrong. One dreadful day, incensed by an injustice, he took a risk too many. The memories he left us will stay with us always. There has never been a racing driver like Gilles Villeneuve. It is impossible to believe there ever will be.

A wonderful book on an amazing driver. November 5, 2008 This book will be a great addition to any F1 fans collection. I personally am a huge Gilles fan to this day, and continue to be saddened that we never got to see more of this most unique racer. I started watching him race Alouette snowmobiles and followed him with great interest throughout his auto racing career, and believe we will never see the likes of such a talent again. He certainly was a once in a lifetime thing. I believe I have every book that has ever been published about Gilles, and rank this right up near the top of my collection. There are some pictures in this book that I have never seen before, which to me makes it worth the price all by it self. Nigel Roebuck is a great writer of F1, and does a great job on this book of bringing the history back to life. I really enjoyed it, and am sure you will too.
The most exciting driver ever October 18, 2008 It's already 26 years since Gilles died in action but he is still remembered depite the fact that he never was a world champion. He just didn't lived long enough to do so. Villeneuve is the living proof that numbers don't really matter when it came to the greatness of a driver. I remembered very well a visit at Maranello, the Ferrari factory near Modena in 1999. Michael Schumacher was the new god for Ferrari but as I strolled through the town, all I saw was pictures of Gilles Villeneuve and very few of Schumacher. Gilles Villeneuve is a living legend in Italy, a sort of icon with his scarlett Ferrari No 27.His famous battle with Rene Arnoux during the French Grand prix of 1979 in Dijon is probably the most spectacular piece of driving exitement ever !So, if you are a fan of Gilles Villeneuve, this is just the best photographic book done about his racing career that I ever saw. Rush for it ! Long live Gilles !
Simply brilliant March 19, 2008 If you believe, as I do, that Gilles Villeneuve was the greatest driver of all time, then this book is a must. The photos are all of excellent quality, and there is just enough written information to keep you informed. This book, however, is aimed at those of us who know of Gilles exploits already, and of the tragedy of his untimely passing. Therefore it is all about enjoying the visual aspect of his exploits behind the wheel of racing cars, and remebering his brilliance.
