4 out of 5 stars Cool but somewhat difficult   October 19, 2006

It's really cool that they came out with a game that is strictly drifting. I am a good drifter in my other games and love to drift, but drifting in this title is somewhat difficult hence there is definitely a learning curve even for us drift enthusiasts. It takes a little while to get used to, but once you race an opponent in the "chase" position and you mirror his movements and stick to his car like glue...well let's just say it's sweet! If you chose beginner, you get to pick to chose your car (some solid colors and some vinyl patterns..not too many of each though), color, rims, wing or no wing. If you choose pro, you get to only choose the pro cars with no customizing options..they are already set up and look like what you see on the tv show..very nice looking cars and drift nicely. What you do is you pick a car and level, then you have three solo tries to get into the top 16 to rank in. Once you rank in, you compete against a single opponent at a time...one time with him with you in lead, and then another round with him with you in chase position. The one with the most drift points at the end of the two rounds wins. If you are evenly matched, you go into more rounds until one of you wins. As far as the graphics go, I think they are pretty good although they are not as good as GT4. The one thing that annoys me is the commentators! If you run a bad race, they put you down so bad and they keep on putting you down. It's hard enough to concentrate on the drifting without having to deal with their ugly comments on your racing. But it's not bad when they are commenting on you when you drive well and put on a good show. =) One note though, you can't begin a D1 series until you complete the training but that doesn't take too long though. Overall this game is pretty good. This would be a really good $20 title. Good thing I had trade-ins which paid for this game. I recommend this game but I also recommend waiting til the price drops because it's not a game that will keep you glued for hours at a time.

1 out of 5 stars VERY frustrating game...don't bother torturing yourself!   September 2, 2006

I'm a fan of the D1 series, so when I saw this game I was super pumped. Especially when I found out it had almost all of the real D1PG drivers and their cars, including the real tracks. Now I know drifting may be somewhat of a difficult task to learn on a video game, but unless you have tons of patience, and enjoy being frustrated beyond believe...don't even bother with this game. I could get into extreme detail on how horrible this game is, but it would be a tragedy to waste my time doing so. Allow me to be short and to the point; graphics remind me of a first generation PS2 game, controls are extremely difficult, hardly any customization options for the cars, NO variety of game play or options, and annoying songs and commentators...which by the way CAN'T BE TURNED OFF. OK here is the must annoying thing of all...you will lose points if you let off the accelerator even the slightest bit during a drift, but if you keep the accelerator down you will run of the course or into the other car...and even lose MORE points. Not to mention the commentators will make fun of how bad you are during the entire process. Maybe if you have hours of time to learn exactly how this game functions properly you can get something out of it. However, I am a school teacher and a father of two, so I have A LOT of patience...but it ran out quickly playing this game. I was very disappointed I forked out $40 for this game; it is not even worth renting to me.
